FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

For questions relating to silhouette cutting for events, this FAQ will hopefully answer them. Please contact Alison for further enquiries.

When cutting live at an event what is the duration of Alison's performance time?
2-3 hours is a standard average. Longer hours can be arranged with breaks for occasions such as commercial trade fairs or retail promotional events. Shorter one hour sessions for small parties or drinks receptions are also possible and Alison can cut via private Zoom session for intimate groups or individuals.
What part of the event is the best time to have the silhouette entertainment commence?
The initial drinks reception is classically the best time to have your silhouette artist start cutting. As your guests settle in to the reception venue the novelty of the live silhouette cutting draws their attention, gets them marvelling at this unusual act and chatting about the outcome, showing them to one another and comparing features.

Alison can continue cutting over the dining period if required. Usually speeches are a good time to take a break or finish depending on where they come according to the schedule. Definitely don't have her start as the disco gets going!

How far will Alison travel for an event?
Alison is based in London which makes travelling anywhere relatively straightforward. She is willing to travel UK wide and abroad so long as these extra travel expenses are covered by the event host.
Do prices include VAT?
Alison is not currently VAT registered so there are no extra charges for VAT.
Do you have public liability insurance?
Yes. A copy of this can be emailed upon request.
How many silhouettes can Alison cut per event?
Alison can cut 15-20 silhouette portraits of your guests on average per hour.
Can we have the engaged couple's silhouettes cut prior to the day for use on the invites and other signage throughout the reception venue?
Absolutely! These can be cut from photos or via Zoom session in advance and used to brand the occasion in as many ways as you can think of. They can also be printed onto the cover of the cards that the silhouette portraits will be mounted in on the day. Please get in touch for a quote for bespoke silhouette mounting cards.
Can you do silhouette cutting workshops for kids and are you DBS checked?
Yes! Alison is great with kids and her silhouette workshops are particularly relevant for school classes when studying life in the Victorian times.
I want to order a silhouette from a photo, what is required from me?

The photo of the subject should be side on, preferably against a plain background and with a neutral expression. The whole head should be in frame including the length of hair and the hair style and clothing on the subject should be as you would like it to appear in the silhouette (see example photo).

We have a large number of guests and would like as many covered as possible, are you able to supply more artists than just yourself?
Yes, There are a few professional silhouette artists that Alison works well in a team with and can recommend.
